About Us

Alan Young set up a sole practitioner practice in 1986, having completed a BSc degree in Building Surveying at Leicester Polytechnic, and became an Associate Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in 1984.

alanAlan was born in Yeovil and educated in the locality, and therefore has a good understanding of the local environment, needs and amenities. The practice was originally based in a small office at the back of a local glove factory on Seaton Road but moved to the now established location at The Lodge, Penn Hill, Yeovil in 1991.

The practice became a limited liability company in 2003.

robRobert Smith joined the practice in January 2006, having previously been with the former practice offices of Simon Barrett who was based in Crewkerne and who has now retired.

sueThe secretary to the practice, Susan Scrase, has been with the company since 2000.

We are able to provide a prompt and professional service for a whole range of projects irrespective of size, from the architectural design of small extensions to dwelling houses and refurbishment of period listed buildings through to the design of modern traditional or modern contemporary housing.

We are proud to have been entrusted with the design of prestigious residential properties in London and Windsor, for a well-known celebrity. Alan has also recently appeared as a surveying consultant on the BBC's property programme Cowboy Trap.

We have well-established links with other local professional organisations, including structural engineers, energy consultants, professional advisors in respect of the Town & Country Planning Act, ecological consultants, highways drainage surveyors and designers. We also have a very good working relationship with the Local Authority Planning and Building Regulation Departments.
