Summer is here

Summer has arrived!   For one day at least.   This year's strawberry crop is supposed to be one of the best, and the apple harvest is expected to be a bumper one.    The crop of surveys however has not increased.    Let's hope that the summer holidays starts up the house-hunting again.

The Department for Communities and Local Government has issued its proposed changes to Permitted Development Rights.    As far as we can see these changes will not improve matters of Planning and are in fact retrograde steps.    The proposals  remove an essential part in the Planning process:  to have a 'check' on inappropriate building works by those who have knowledge, training and expertise in this field.    There is a fear that vernacular architecture and the local environment will be under threat.   Our local Planning Department is extremely concerned about the changes.

But on a sunny day it is good to put aside such thoughts and enjoy our beautiful Somerset countryside.
